Bidhannagar had the privilege of being selected in the top 50 cities of the smart city challenge phase 1 and is now gearing up for phase 2. The first step would be to do a gap analysis of the earlier proposal and come out with a more effective solution. Gap analysis shall be followed by Zoning of area for area based development. To have a proposal that is for the people and of the people, an active participation would be required from the citizens. Identification of key areas of concern and pan city solutions by the people shall help the government in developing strategies for the development of the city as it is the citizens who can provide a deep insight of their home city. Polling would be conducted to identify the best and most effective area based development strategies and solutions that would be part of the Bidhannagar smart city proposal. Electric lines- They must be laid underground. This has a lot of advantages. Illegal connections will vanish and in any calamity, there will not be any problem. Drainage System- There must be excellent drainage system. There must be no open drain. Every drop of rain water must be collected and used. The water from toilets must be recycled and given to agriculture. • Solar panels and bio-toilets must be compulsory in all the houses and offices. The buildings which have them pay lesser tax.

Roads – there is a new technology called the solar roads. The roads are built using hexagonal solar blocks. They absorb sunlight and produce power. They also have built-in heaters and LED-bulbs. Each block is connected with each other and if one fails, the other one detects and sends a signal to the office. They are made of tampered glass which is very strong. This is eco-friendly and will not develop any pot-holes. You can understand better in www.solarroadways.com
