While the general participation rates in higher education has been steadily increasing and today our HE GER is 21.5%, this is not evenly spread across social groups and women. Equitable growth is essential to sustain higher GER rates and hence what kinds of affirmative action could be suggested to reduce gender and social disparities in here.

• To promote qualitative education, gender inequity must be stopped. This can be reduced if the educational institutions and the government both jointly arranged social programmes for the welfare of the society e.g. Camps, seminars and conferences.

Above all one thing should be kept in mind: If you educate a boy, you educate an individual. If you educate a girl child you educate two families.

For bridging gender gaps , parents must be made aware of the benefits of education. They must be made to realize that education is the only investment which guarantees high or virtually infinite returns in the future. Since reluctance to educate girl child is more in the poor sections of the society ,they must be made to realize that education improves social status as well as brings fortunes to the family.

OLD EDUCATION POLICY SHOULD BE ADOPTED AND CCE SYSTEM SHOULD BE SIMPLIFIED. BOARD EXAM MUST BE COMPULSORY FOR CLASS TENTH STANDARD. NO RETENTION POLICY SHOULD BE UP TO CLASS FIFTH ONLY.
