National Highway 19 (NH 19) is a national highway in India. It was previously referred to as Delhi–Kolkata Road and is one of the busiest national highways in India. After renumbering of national highways, Delhi to Agra route is now national highway 44 and Agra to Kolkata route is numbered national highway 19.

The National Highways Authority of India was established by the National Highways Authority of India Act, 1988. Section 16(1) of the Act states that the function of NHAI is to develop, maintain, and manage the National Highways and any other highways vested in, or entrusted to, it by the Government of India.

That's right: a freeway is a highway, but not every highway is a freeway. A freeway will have strictly controlled access via entrance and exit ramps. There will be no cross-traffic, stop lights, or other traffic control on the roadway. Usually, the speed limit is higher than on highways with traffic control.

National Highway 44
- National Highway 44 – It is the longest national highway in India with a length of 4,112 km running from Srinagar in the north to Kanyakumari in the South. This highway connects 11 states and about 30 important cities with each other.

National Highways are the backbone of the road infrastructure that connects every major city of India whether ports, capital of states etc. It consists of two, four or more lanes built by charcoal and few by cement concrete. That is in India, National Highways are at-grade roads.

National Highway 1 (NH 1) in India runs between the union territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. It comprises parts of old NH1A and NH1D. The number 1 indicates, under the new numbering system, that it is the northernmost East-West highway in India.

The National highways in India are a network of trunk roads owned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. It is constructed and managed by the Central Public Works Department, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, and the public works departments of state governments.

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is India’s premier highway infrastructure creator entrusted with developing, maintaining, and managing National Highways. It is a statutory body under the administrative control of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. NHAI was constituted by an Act of Parliament in 1988 to take over the development and maintenance of the National Highway system from the Central Government, which was responsible for planning, approval of design, estimates, monitoring, etc., of National Highway projects and the state PWDs which executed them. NHAI became operational in February 1995.
