National Highway Authority of India currently is planning to build a citizen facing interface which can cater to all highway related needs of NH commuters. NHAI already has an Android mobile application called Sukhaad Yatra (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rsawh.nhia&hl=en_IN&gl=US) which needs to be upgraded and advanced further.

Citizens are invited to share their ideas on how the Sukhad Yatra app can be improved with additional features/ integrations to better service the needs of citizens. The end outcome is to improve the experience of NH commuters and build a robust medium of 2-way communication.

The tool will not be limited to but can cover the following areas:
● Informing users of construction and maintenance activities
● Allowing users to register complaints pertaining to the condition of the highway or highway activities such as toll (for eg. If wait times for a toll gate are too long or if FasTag is not working at a gate)
● Allow users to rate highways on various characteristics of the highway around their experience as a rider (on both negative and positive characteristics of experience, for example whether the NH offers a scenic route or view)
● Allow user to access emergency and first response services on the highway
● Allow users to access information on wayside amenities, petrol pumps, EV stations etc. Information about location of facilities along the route can be searched on Google Maps but this is hard to access for non smartphone users.
● Allow users to report traffic congestion, accidents, debris, toll-relates issues, request EV charging points etc to local command centres (Eg. Waze)
● The interface should be able to cater to user-needs of commuters with and without smartphones
● The interface should have a strong focus on UX, intuitive and centred around the day-to-day needs and experience of highway users.

The interface can also operate as a platform through which multiple existing private and public applications can link to such as NH’s toll free number, toll management system etc or travel related apps (MapMyIndia, Google Maps etc) which already have a high user-base. The platform should leverage strengths of existing IT applications and not reinvent where necessary.

The design should cater to all kinds of NH users such as:
● Commercial (trucking etc) who may or may not have a smartphone and a user design which caters to their needs
● Personal long-distance commuter which may not be as frequent but may have access to smartphones
● Local residents who live around the highways and use it more frequently than private long distance commuters

Submissions to this can be in the form of app mock-ups/ prototypes, presentations, concept notes on platform and other interfaces, list of desired features by commuters etc.

Tha last date of submission of ideas is 15th June 2022.

If there are more complaints on bad quality of the road the same stretch laid by the contractor NHAI should reimburse the amount to the users. The contract should be cancelled. Whenever any maintenance work happens an alert or warning can be given in the previous Toll Booth. Sometimes there is no warning sign and iron barricade is kept in the middle of the road causing difficulty to the drivers. Vehicles transporting goods and heavy lorries do not give way on the right side and they occupy the road causing unwanted nuisance. So there should be a proper lane system throughout the Toll Roads. For every 100 Kilometres a mini hall with fan and toilet facility for exclusively for women travellers should be there. Some women can feed their kid, pregnant women can sit and relax for few minutes and continue their journey. App should have a mail id from which users can share their ideas and suggestions to improve the App and acknowledgement & Reward Points should be sent to best suggestions.

If we go to travel discussion sites like team-bhp people ask for ratings and recommendations for break areas which is fit for women, Add information like if the petrol pump does it has a toilet for women and drinking water. Another piece of information people seek is the road condition, why be ashamed if it has potholes. Add Vehicle repair shop information may be crowd sourced as most of them are not registered ,its very helpful

In the App there should be an option to enter From location and To location. When the user enters the details it should automatically display how many toll plaza is there, distance between each toll plaza and rate. Also it should show nearest hospital and petrol stations and medical shops. This will be very helpful if anyone needs medical emergency. A heavy penalty should be levied from the contractors if they maintain the roads poorly. An option to report such poor maintenance of roads should be there in the App. CC TV Cameras should be installed in every 50 Kilometres all Toll Roads if any crime doers escapes after doing any robbery or murder. A small and well maintained washrooms for senior citizens and Physically Challenged people should be provided by NHAI at every 50 Kilometres. So that they can utilise these services when they travel long distance. Government authorised shops selling milk coffee, tea and beverages at a reasonable price will be very helpful to everyone.

Like buildings , there should be star ratings for Highways . The parameters may be like , quality of road , potholes , bumps , spead breakers , facilities , amenities etc. The quality roads will save significant amount of fuel cost. The tolls should be as per ratings.

First all Toll Plaza should display the waiting time in big LCD screens. Road quality should be monitored every 15 days. Charging double is a day light robbery and it should be stopped. The rates should be uniform for every 100 kilometres. Users returning back within 24 hours should not be charged double. NHAI should seriously consider this. There is an useless condition by NHAI that only specially designed vehicles of Physically Challenged people will be allowed to travel without any Toll. Some Physically Challenged people may have to travel with some of their personal escorts and they may not need a special vehicle. So NHAI should seriously consider to give 100% Toll Exemption for the Physically Challenged people who has got UDID Card with 75% locomotor disability. All UDID Card holders can travel in any vehicle of their convenience.. When a Physically Challenged person is traveling it can be tracked through the Special Fast Tag linked with UDID Card should be issued by NHAI.
