Wetlands is the collective term for marshes, swamps, bogs, and similar areas. Wetlands filter sediments and nutrients from surface water and support all life forms through extensive food webs and biodiversity. They are fragile ecosystems that are susceptible to changes even with little change to the composition of their biotic and abiotic factors. In recent years, there has been increasing concern over the continuing degradation of world's wetlands, particularly rivers and lakes.
