With a dramatic growth in elementary education enrolments and improvements in retention and transition rates in recent years, particularly amongst the more disadvantaged groups, there is an increasing pressure on the secondary schools to admit more students. With the enforcement of RTE Act and further improvement in retention and transition rates, demand for secondary schooling will grow rapidly in the coming years. The objective of this discussion group is to assess to what extent we have made quality education available, accessible and affordable to the target population in the age group of 14–18 years. How we can increase access to post elementary education across the country in a manner so as to ensure no child is denied the opportunity of completing his/her school education. In particular, how can we address the geographical and social disparities in secondary education?

Getting admitted into any school is so difficult - no of good schools Vs population. Has this been considered ? Can we go back to Schooling system before the British arrived in India. The same was re-searched and published by Dharampal in his book "Beautiful Tree". That model resulted into schooling to all and very high literacy rate. In other words - what are we doing to fix the current admission problem ?

At present mostly there are no +2 education in Villages. Only up to 10th standard available in Zilla Parashad Schools. +2 (intermediate) course available in Junior Colleges in cities captured by corporate managements. This leads to end up of rural students specially by girls by 10th standard. This should change. Up to 12th standard (CBSE) shall be ensured in the same school campus. After secondary school education it can be left over to continue higher education or not like in foreign countries.

Syllabus for the High school education and Secondary education is all practical based specially Science. So teachers must pay attention from the High classes i.e. from 8Th onwards for practicals in these classes. Weak students must be taken care well and must be given extera time to cover the weaknesses.Parents must not pressurize the children in these classes. Also Games and extra curri-cullar activities makes the students more active in studies.

it is shame that class 9-10 students have not seen compass , vernier , screw gauge ,magnet , ph indicator even thermometers. the labs should be equipped to conduct experiments. district education officers should monitor it. all our education has become cramming !!! schools should be fined for not having proper lab classes.

From Classes IV to VIII, Besides the five subjects, it should be compulsory to opt for one sport, one art form(Dance/Dramam/Music) and one social-service related subject.
