India is the World’s second largest producer of Fruits & Vegetables. However, the processing of perishable products in our country is very low, in comparison to the developed countries or developing countries like China, Brazil, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc. One of the main constraints in the growth of processing of fruits & vegetables in the country is non-availability of modern and suitable infrastructure with efficient supply Chain. Consequently, there is very high level of wastage of the fruits & vegetables in the country resulting in the farmer not getting adequate remuneration for his yield. A study conducted by Central Institute of Post Harvesting Engineering Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana, an ICAR institute, reveals that wastage in various agricultural crops in the country range from 6-18% and the highest loss has been shown in fruits and vegetables.

Ministry of Food processing Industries invites views/ suggestions for reduction of these losses.

Last date for sending your suggestions is 1st February 2015.

private sector should be encouraged to build warehouses around the country and farmer can directly sell to the food processors. If market decides the price then it would be good. Companies can go for contract agriculture production. In that way farmer will get advance capital from large companies and then they can process in near by location. It will increase jobs also

Sir, how can we improve quality of villagers. We all know that villagers depend upon agriculture and it is open to all now that prices of farmers crops. It is now at half rate of previous year. If you govern us like this, then you know the fact of Farmer's suicide cases. It will start in Haryana too. So have a look into it. Don't kill farmers. They elect BJP with a new hope not for all this. I am a Supporter of MODI ji only.. Plz plz plz do forward our concern for a healthy village campaign.

Dear Prime Minister, Your talk on AIR was quite inspirational. I am a practicing neurologist and it was very heartening to note the special mention of facilities for specially abled children. A large number of these children suffer from neurological diseases which go untreated and lead to loss of skills and manpower. ICMR should focus on developing indigenised cost effective treatment methods and the urban-rural disparity in availability needs to be bridged.

Our govt. Can make cold warehouses for the storage of fruits and vegetables . The govt can charge reasonable amount from farmers or the govt can open its own retail stores and buy fruits and vegetables directly from farmers and before selling they can be stored in freezers

There should be markets created for farmers in the cities.where they directly sell.instead of mediators.Govt has to create some transportation in the morning & evening so they directly come from near by villages and they can sell fruits and vegetables,this is seen in andhra pradesh which were so called raythu bazars(farmers market)

The 15% loss is nothing compared to the 80% loss in government money in corruption and inefficiency .No attention is being paid to this at all to this. Please see what America did to get its black money back and do exactly the same or subcontract the job to them and give them 30% commission as fee

Sir by dividing FCA in three department will help in reducing wastage.i.e., Collecting Department / Storage Department / Distribution Department. All three Department are link together through online process so that when collecting the other two department decide what Qty will will stored & what will distributed.

Refrigeration not only extends the life of vegetables and fruits but also saves them from pests. If the price of refrigeration devices like small size fridges/cold storages is brought down by waiver of taxes/duties and bank loans are made available at cheap rates as a priority sector lending, then it would substantially reduce the losses. Power availability is an issue in rural areas and solar power based devices should be popularized through zero tariffs.
