In December 2014 the United Nations declared 21st June as ‘International Day of Yoga’ after 177 nations across all continents of the world co-sponsored a resolution seeking the same.

When the resolution was adopted, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed immense joy on this and said that Yoga has the power to bring the entire humankind together. It may be recalled that the Prime Minister had mooted such an idea during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2014.

You are requested to provide inputs on the following aspects relating to the marking of the first ever ‘International Day of Yoga’.

(1) How can the ‘International Day of Yoga’ be celebrated at the UN forum?

(2) Suggest creative ways in which the ‘International Day of Yoga’ can be celebrated at the world stage.

(3) What are ways in which we can mark the ‘International Day of Yoga’ across the length and breadth of India?

Best inputs and suggestions would be sent to the Prime Minister himself and would also be utilized.

The word yoga may be derived either from the Sanskrit root verb yuiṋj plus the suffix ghaiṋ, or from the root verb yuj plus the suffix ghaiṋ. When yoga is derived as yuj + ghaiṋ it means “addition,” such as “two plus two equals four.” But when yoga is derived as yuiṋj + ghaiṋ, it means “unification”. For example, when sugar and water are mixed together, they become one. Sugar loses its individual identity. This is the real yoga.

MEA should convert all its missions and posts into 'yog prachar kendras' in addition to their normal business. yog contains solution to all problems at personal, social, national and international levels. the potential of yog should be explored. the biggest gift of bharat to vishwa should not be allowed to be wasted by english speaking/writing babus of AYUSH department, who are more interested in distributing funds to yog-NGOs rather than any meaningful contribution for spreading message of yog

Sir, My observations: 1. Please encourage the spelling "YOG" instead of "YOGA". 2. Pharmaceutical companies should be roped in to promote yog. 3. They should be encouraged to do R&D over Yog, so that they slowly shift their businesses from a "Cure model" to "Preventive model". 4. Middle class is ready to pay for their health, they need the right choices. 5. Private schools should be encouraged to voluntarily introduce YOG in their curriculum. The best would be govt funded schools.

As we know that in ancient India Yoga was the only way to get success in everyday life and even in every religions different postures of Yoga are manifested. In this fast moving life/era, we need to catch this art of living in a rigid fashion so that various mental, sociological problems can be uprooted.
