In December 2014 the United Nations declared 21st June as ‘International Day of Yoga’ after 177 nations across all continents of the world co-sponsored a resolution seeking the same.

When the resolution was adopted, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed immense joy on this and said that Yoga has the power to bring the entire humankind together. It may be recalled that the Prime Minister had mooted such an idea during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2014.

You are requested to provide inputs on the following aspects relating to the marking of the first ever ‘International Day of Yoga’.

(1) How can the ‘International Day of Yoga’ be celebrated at the UN forum?

(2) Suggest creative ways in which the ‘International Day of Yoga’ can be celebrated at the world stage.

(3) What are ways in which we can mark the ‘International Day of Yoga’ across the length and breadth of India?

Best inputs and suggestions would be sent to the Prime Minister himself and would also be utilized.

Best way to promote Yoga is to inform people about the benefits of Yoga and Meditation. It can be celebrated at the world stage by a dance performance which will include the yoga postures.

Similar to sports scholarships, merit based scholarships for yoga practitioners to state funded institutions. Emphasis to Rishikesh and Mysore as capitals; state backing for institutes like KPJAYI and for institutes like KPJAYI to begin school-level programmes.

Yoga is the best exercise that can be done by people of all ages. The International Day of Yoga should be celebrated in all educational , govt as well as private institutions by having yoga sessions and interesting programs related to yoga. Yoga's importance in daily life should be discussed and awareness about the various health hazards that can be prevented through Yoga should be spread. Yoga helps in improving concentration and fitness especially among students and youngsters.

Avoid commenting on Yoga for that would be possessiveness. Show its evolution in India (and its spread to the West ending in Swami Vivekanand’s Chicago visit introducing Yoga to the West. The visual may end with one paragraph from Swamiji’s Chicago inaugural lecture speaking of universal brotherhood. Significantly, the Chicago lecture was on another 9/11. Indian IT capability may be showcased by making a short but attractive visual on this theme. Show it widely.
