In December 2014 the United Nations declared 21st June as ‘International Day of Yoga’ after 177 nations across all continents of the world co-sponsored a resolution seeking the same.

When the resolution was adopted, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed immense joy on this and said that Yoga has the power to bring the entire humankind together. It may be recalled that the Prime Minister had mooted such an idea during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2014.

You are requested to provide inputs on the following aspects relating to the marking of the first ever ‘International Day of Yoga’.

(1) How can the ‘International Day of Yoga’ be celebrated at the UN forum?

(2) Suggest creative ways in which the ‘International Day of Yoga’ can be celebrated at the world stage.

(3) What are ways in which we can mark the ‘International Day of Yoga’ across the length and breadth of India?

Best inputs and suggestions would be sent to the Prime Minister himself and would also be utilized.

No doubt yoga is good. BUT where is FRESH AIR. if we take long breath in pure fresh air only for 10 minutes a day ,there is no need for any yoga poga. FIRST OF ALL WE NEED FRESH AIR FOR YOGA ALSO.

It is sad that the government is etertaining debates on Yoga. I would have felt happier if the government had come out with categorical denial that Yoga is just exercise to keep fit and that no talks co-relating it with religion would be entertained. Such a statement would have shut thousands of mouths and given to YOGA.

It is also worth noting that while doing the ‘Namaz’ i.e. prayer (Ibadat) to the Allah the Muslims sit in ‘Vajrasana,’ the best way of sitting anytime, anywhere. This is the most important Yogasana for anybody from any religion in the world. And the global religion is one and only humanity which leads us all to the communal harmony and international brotherhood.

Among all the Yogasanas, ‘Bhujangasana’ is the best of all, because it gives very much useful exercise to the muscles and bones of all the fingers, palms, hands, arms, shoulders, chest, and the spinal cord in particular. While doing Bhujangasana, the essential act of Anulom and Vilom (breathing in and breathing out of air from the lungs) of Pranayama gets done automatically, though unknowingly.

It’s shocking to note that some Mohammedan people and institutions think that Yoga is a religious activity, solely meant for the Hindus ! It should be noted and understood well that Yoga is an art of living in India since the ancient past. It is purely and solely related to the physical exercise along with particular, controlled quantum of respiration that is, breathing in and breathing out of air. It has nothing to do with the Hindu or any other religion.

steps should be taken to make yoga more interesting among small kids in school. i think it should be made compulsory in schools as an important class. kids are our country's future. they should grow up with these values. they should be taught the importance of each and every asana, so that our legacy is taken forward. i feel kids are the strongest medium to establish greater impact.
