India is one of the leaders in sustainable development and clean energy. With the Hon PM Narendra Modi-led government’s reform-oriented, environment-friendly policies, the country has time & again shown that sound environmental policies can pave the way to a sound economy.

At the UN Climate Change Conference COP26 in 2021, PM Shri Narendra Modi announced the ‘LiFE’, a mission to bring individual behavioural change at the forefront of the global climate action narrative. LIFE or Lifestyle for Environment along with the ‘Pro Planet People’ movement, aims to strengthen the efforts to overcome climate change.

LiFE will replace the prevailing 'use-and-throw’ thinking with an environmentally conscious lifestyle. The Mission is to create a global community of ‘Pro-Planet People’ (P3), who with their shared commitment will adopt and promote environmentally friendly lifestyles.

Individual Efforts Are Key to Climate Commitment

India's traditional knowledge strongly positions it to lead the narrative of addressing climate change. Like many other mass movements, LiFE aims to inspire climate action based on the mantra of ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’.

I feel , promoting reuse of clothes , furniture etc. Should be promoted with the help of social media and advertisment because there are so many people who throw things before their life. They're unaware of the process and resources used to make an product.

R1- Reduce energy.Our country needs to come out of the clutches of OPEC. Our need for petroleum products is increasing being 2nd largest producer of automobiles. Producing EVs is good but again electrical energy requirements will shoot up. At present it has to come from hydel,solar, wind to be green. Thermal,nuclear & gas based are the other sources. We need to get or jointly develop small nuclear reactors as west is developing SMR (salt modular reactor ) if it can be brought down to 1 to 2 MW level it can be a boon. And for use in large ships to save fuel oil.Railways for traction,large construction sites for electricity.And as stop gap arrangement till we tap renewable energy in full. When they can build nuclear sub for underwater with human beings inside it means they have scaled it down safely to that level with whatever technology is available & this is a step further to scale down. These are built for wars cost maybe high but our scientists can bring down the cost.

Environmental policies in high-income counties often come at the expense of low-income countries. Global waste is shipped across the world, primarily ending up in lower-income countries, often clogging drains, polluting water, causing respiratory infections and harming wildlife. How can we do it differently? Higher-income countries should create more localized and closed-loop supply chains to encourage big exporters to deal with their own waste and improve the working conditions for informal waste collectors, dismantlers and recyclers.

"Carbon Neutral Leadership – Offsetting Travels" As per a report from statista.com* on the leaders of G20 countries and their respective CO2 emissions due to international travels, our PM figures in the top 10. It is inevitable that our PM and other leaders have to fly abroad and within our country and cannot avoid the resultant emissions. However, if we know that all these journeys are being offset then it would be very reassuring. Propose that all travels by our PM and the Council of Ministers are offset, if not done already, with tree planting, forest preservation and green energy supply initiatives as part of the P3 movement. This initiative should be extended to the MPs and the States and UTs too. Also these travel and offset activities should be publicized. The offsetting activities by our leaders are likely to be contagious and cause positive ripple effect among our citizens. As Chanakya’s saying goes, ‘yathā rājā tathā prajā’. Thankyou.

we have adopted hydrogen policy and planning for hydrogen busses and cars but it requires high pressure hydrogen tank to carry. it requires atleast 33 %energy to compressed hydrogen in to tank. transportation of hydrogen is also difficult. if we can use sodium and water to produse hydrogen it will become cheaper option as sodium can be transported easily and it's storage is easy. we can reclaim sodium from sodium hydroxide with the help of electrolysis. some hydrogen and oxygen will also be generated as by product. so where ever compressed hydrogen is required we can use sodium instead of pressurised hydrogen tank. but the process where pressurised hydrogen tank is not required we can use piped hydrogen gas.

This is regarding Modiji's "ONE SUN, ONE EARTH, ONE GRID" Pet Project. With my limited knowledge in Electrical engineering, I feel ONE Grid is next to impossible, as there would be Huge transmission losses and logistic costs making the whole project unviable. please give this serious thought before proceeding any further.

Despite use of LED and energy efficient electrical gadgets, demand for electricity is increasing. A lot of importance is given to renewable or green energy but still it can be seen that coal based thermal energy is main source of electricity generation. Any shortage of coal creates panic all over country. Whatever we do to promote green energy, we have to keep in mind that this can not become primary source of energy to meet all power demand in near future. The only substitute of coal is nuclear power for long term energy security of country with exponentially growing power demand. We have to come out of stigma against nuclear power. Nuclear technology has become safer, reactors are safer and controls have become intelligent. When there is so much pressure to reduce use of coal due to its adverse effect on climate and global warming, government shall push for early completion of nuclear power projects in larger national interests.

Government policies do not match with business model of companies. Government proposes reuse of electronic products. But companies want that user shall use and throw their products so that users have to buy new products. They do not adequately support service network. My 12 year old Sony music system stopped working. When I went to their authorised service centre, they declared it unserviceable. Now, what to do with this except throwing it away? What government can do?
