In emergencies, poor patients struggle as Ayushman Bharat benefits are not applied at the entry point—they must first spend on investigations to justify admission. I propose designating all AIIMS as regional referral coordination centres to streamline patient transfers and create a national digital platform showing real-time bed availability across government and private hospitals. Research using referral data can identify gaps and guide development of efficient prehospital and referral systems. These steps can ensure timely, equitable, and compassionate care for every citizen in need.
