Ruthless extortion of food-grains was carried out by the British in the harvesting season of June-July 1943 in the Bengal Province. 5 million people died due to starvation by October, 1943. The children died much faster, their bellies bloated. In October, 1943, some survivors had reached well-fed Calcutta with the hope for food. Most of them died on the streets. Mr. W. Churchill, the then British P.M, continued outward shipping of food-grains from India but blocked inward shipping of relief to India from willing nations. World War II ended in 1945. He hastened to compile the first history of that war and his book in six volumes published during 1948-1953 totally suppressed the genocide. This book was the main reference for subsequent historians and thus his crime was erased from history. Ireland and Ukraine suffered starvation-genocide and built memorials to honor the victims. India remained mum and no memorial was built. Oct’2024 asks, “why?”.
