We need to focus on the in-service teacher education and evolve a system for the professional development of those teachers who are already working. We should have accredited centers at the block level which would offer courses in in blended mode. The teachers can visit the center on the week ends and during the week they could work online for their professional development. The courses should be credit based and every teacher must earn certain number of credits every year.

Teaching should become one of the top three professional choices. Revamp pay scales to match those of management/engg graduates to attract best talent. Every teacher should aspire to be revered as a drona or chankya

Nothing is more important than securing a sufficient supply of high quality recruits to the teaching profession, providing them with the best possible professional preparation and creating extraordinary conditions of work in which they can be fully efficient and effective. A high quality innovative teacher training academy for the service can thus play a crucial role in the development of education.

An ALL INDIA SERVICE is the way forward which would have set guidelines for recruitment and training for quality Teacher Education, mandatory for anyone wanting to become a teacher. This would also provide teachers a respectable place in the society, with emoluments and perks equivalent to that of a civil servant such that the demand to join this profession would increase manifold and help wipe out the teacher deficit and correct the lopsided teacher-student ratio.
