In the past few months we all have worked in conjunction towards making Tumakuru a Smart City. The citizen feedback received in Stage 1 and 2 of this Challenge have been carefully analyzed to articulate the vision, goals and prioritized Area Based Development & PAN City projects proposed in the Smart City Proposal.

As part of the process for Round 3 Citizen Engagement, Tumakuru City Corporation is inviting everyone related to Tumakuru for your feedback as well as valuable suggestions on the proposal.

To sum up, there are several fields of activity which are described in literature in relation to the term Smart City: industry, education, participation, technical infrastructure, various ‘soft factors’; finally we can identify six characteristics (see Fig. 1) as a roof for the further elaboration of smart cities which should incorporate the findings but also allow an inclusion of additional factors.

The city, according to estimates has around 235 educational institutions of all types. A large number of higher education institutions are private and run by trusts. Siddaganga mutt too runs several such institutions in the city.

Logistics as well as new transport systems as “smart” systems which improve the urban traffic and the inhabitants’ mobility. Moreover various other aspects referring to life in a city are mentioned in connection to the term Smart City like security/safe, green, efficient & sustainable, energy etc.

Smart City is furthermore used to discuss the use of modern technology in everyday urban life. This includes not only ICT but also, and especially, modern transport technologies.
