Innocence is created in a mankind when he gets mixture of work and pastime alternatively, as the poem says “All work and no play makes jack a dull boy”. All gigantic problems have always a simple solution. Only we have to find it out and apply it on experimental basis.

I pondered over the issue for years when I was working in KANSBAHAL ,ODISHA. I approached many teachers and psychologists for a suitable answer, written many letters to editors in THE TELEGRAPH in 1995-2001 period and found out that the excessive curricular load is the main culprit that is driving our children from innocence to premature adulthood. He is told to work always with the hope to get leisure in future to play or RECREATE, which he never gets.

Another important point to remember is that, by teaching values in schools or by reading books on human values, values can’t be cultivated. It will come to the individuals only when he/she experiences it. Education must teach the basics of human values and give sufficient avenues to inculcate in the laboratory of poverty, deprivation and sufferings.

Besides the modern media entertainment through 24*7 television serials, excessive curricular load and deficient teaching methods to cope with such excessive loads are responsible for such loss of innocence or creating juvenile adults in school going children. Here comes the moot question as to why parents are unable to respond properly to the need of their children?

Today we think more about the career of our children but not about their character. The entire society has become career oriented for monetary gain. Cultivation of human values and fellow feeling has gone to the wind.

What is shocking is that many kids in their early teens have face book accounts where the minimum age bar is 18 years. So all these kids tell blatant lie as 18 years old or so and open the account.
