The country is well endowed with many metallic and non-metallic mineral resources.  India is a leading player in respect of many non fuel minerals including, iron ore, bauxite, dolomite, lime stone and mica.  Mining sector (non-fuel) currently accounts for approx 0.5% of GDP.  For accelerated economic growth on sustainable basis, this sector has to grow at a much faster pace to secure   a higher percentage in the GDP.

Scientific, sustainable and transparent mining practices require well trained manpower.  Skill development not only enhances productivity and safety at work place, but more importantly, it prepares the manpower to adapt to the new state of art technologies. Currently this sector employs around 0.2 Million workforce which is estimated to grow to 0.3 Million in next 10 years.

MEDICAL PROFESSION needs a thorough evaluation from standards of entry into Med-Schools, passing the Exam.and subsequent practice. The system seems to be quite lax and many doctors currently practicing have fake degrees. Many seem to have cleared MCI approval through collusion with the staff. Some med-schools give admission in programs through bribes of many lakhs of rupees. Even fake med degrees can be bought.Allowing all this to happen means playing with peoples lives.. System needs cleansing.

Safety is an important aspect to be considered while giving requisite training.. As most of the mines are at remote location, the regulatory body should inspect the sites in a time bound manner to ensure that basic infrastructure is provided to the worker .. medical facilities should be made a pre-requisite requirement before granting of licences .. the housing at these places are pathetic and licences should be granted only after the infrastructure is made available for the staff..
