Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Encourage use of recycled paper bags and home made bags of old clothes. This can give shape to a new small scale industry and self-employment to poor. Impose heavy fine for any one using plastic bag. And most important, make local civic bodies like municipality accountable and they must also be fined if found not working properly.

Provide alternative and point out benefits of it instead of negating existing methods. Yes we do resist change but we all move ahead with new things to explore. Similarly instead of cursing plastic forget it and make it forgotten by providing its alternative easily and inexpensively available. All are in dilemma of what to use instead of plastic. Clear that confusion along with making its alternatives easily available, market it and sell it. Plastic will be out of lives.

We all know about plastic that it take million of years to decompose. But we are still using it in daily chores. Sometimes we feel helpless without it. We are so used to it that to get rid of it we have to do some very hard efforts. We should see that we are setting examples to our next generation. So set more and more examples like throwing green birthday parties by using banana leafs for serving food and for water dried leaf glasses. Say no to plastic and thermocoal

To promote something firstly you have set examples and motivate people. On the other hand people could not get attracted to new thing until and unless something free they get. So to attract for a change you have to give something attracting to them like free jute bags to everyone then with time they will used to it and never see plastic again

When the plastic bags,cups,plates etc were started, they were not taken lightly. But by and by we all got accustomed. Banning them will naturally offend us. But continous PRACHAAR against these items will reduce the resentment. Any change is resisted. So the gutts are required for the good of the society. By and by people will accept it and will start taking offence if someone uses plastic and dirty the place.Infact same gutts should be shown for family planning also. Ban on increase is overdue

5. all existing plastic bags should be recycled by government agency. one time reward should be given to people who will be turning in plastic bags. this should be done by starting from one part of the city and slowly covering all parts. 6. people needs to be informed about the collection well in advance for them to gather the plastic.

1.use a phased termination method (e.g- in three years we will not use any plastic bag) 2. Increase tax on the plastic bags on the last year. 3. all the existing plastic bag manufactures within the state should be give ideas on sustain their business using other alternative manufacturing items. e.g- paper bags, cloth bags and others. 4. All retailers should be asked, not to charge for plastic bags as it encourages people to buy. the retails should be forced to find an alternative.
