Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Plastic waste ban cannot give solution. In SERC Chennai, we developed method to utilize any kind of plastic waste for the production of light weight wall panels, road medians, light weight solid blocks and etc @ competitive cost. The method of reuse is safer without any additional process and without compensating the performance. In particular, the plastic pet bottles are has more advantages. any further information, contact Director SERC or Project Leader, CSIR 800, SERC, Chennai. The plastic waste purchases from public should be recycled at designated centres. The turnaround time will have to be fast otherwise #PlasticPlates & #PlasticCups with food residue will make the entire system stink. This is out of the box but implementable method. #Ban is no solution. #NGT should focus on better recycling

Polythene is a very versatile material and user friendly. Solution to plastic waste is not ban but effective recycling machinery. If we use paper bags, we are encouraging cutting of trees to make paper. Enough efforts have been made to inculcate responsible behaviour in public but have failed. I suggest the Govt to start buying plastic waste. The existing PDS network can be used. This will help people segeregate recyclable waste & attractive price might even encourage cleaning old piles of trash

by using some steps we can reduce or control the level of uses of plastic and its recycle. . 1. on plastic bag manufacturer post a   photos of god or religious icon so that people will carry the bag for long time and they will never throw it by once use. and thus become a recycling and reuse at in start point 2.. to avid plastic bag by civilian in daily basis.  only use it when it is important 3...by increasing  use of cotton bags

Banning something will never deter the public using the banned material. The only solution is to make alternative more economic and user friendly. Enlighten the students at the early age about the consequences of plastic in their life and also suggest the ways to improve the age old proven ecofriendly life style.

Ban selling of mineral water and aerated drinks in a plastic bottle. Ban use of plastic in retail stores and malls by increasing the price of plastic covers and bags by 10 fold. Ban sale of plastic spoons and plastic cups. #Ban, #PlasticCarryBags, #PlasticCups, #PlasticPlates This will reduce atleast 50% of
