Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Plastic bags should be completely banned,as these are harmful for human as well as nature... but instead of challaning the use of plastic bags,the administration should take concrete steps & suggest some alternatives or substitute,so that problem will solve.Some awareness camps or public meetings should be organize so that a solution to this problem can be reached...JAI HIND

First,predict production of polythene waste. Remind ban on gutkha.All small pouches of cosmetics, gutkha,snackssnacks etc must be banned because it becomes impossible to dispose such small polythene pouches. There must be three bin system for separate disposal of recyclables, polythenes and organic wastes. No special container is required to use as any of three bin. But administration must ensure collection & disposal of three types of waste sepratly. Level of ban should be raised gradually.

main problem is availability of paper bags to shopkeepers as each one has to procure them separately.network for supplying is not good for paper bags as that of plastic bags.moreover jute bags should be supplied to consumers and they should be encouraged to carry bags in their vehicles permanently.khakhi paper bags are expensive also.jute bags should also be made available at exit point of societies with the chowkidar.innovative jute bags be made of three compartments seperating each other .

Srinivas It's really great to be a part of this great event. Why can't the central government impose a ban on manufacturers? Why they are back of the shop owners? Stop the production of goods made of plastic. Impose a ban on manufacturers. If one starts, rest will follow. So do it........

I respect thoughts to ban use of plastic carry bags, but I think it has imbibed so deeply in our system that it can't be just stopped at once. Imagine you visit a restaurant & want leftovers packed, what is the option. Most of the medicines, oils, food items, breads and lot many things are packed in either plastic containers or plastic bags. The proper course may be management of plastic waste, its collection, recycling & may be weeded out gradually once an effective alternative is available.

Small polythene bags for carrying less than 5 kg weight must be banned. For carrying more than 5 kg, polythene bags should be allowed after paying charges to government. All small polythene bags must be destroyed by burning without any pollution. In this way, we can control use of polythene bags.

Plastic carry bag ban in Bangalore. It is only limited to carry bags, whereas all grocery / provision items are packed in plastic packets. It defeats the purpose. It is not implemented in true spirit. whatever product we pick from grocery store is packed in plastic. Just carrying all this plastic packets in a clothe bag is not the solution to problem. we need to ensure that plastic is not used to pack items as well. Plastic bags manufacturing units should be closed down. for plastic free City

1.Imposing ban one way/other way to give alternatives:Use of earthen-pots,pitchers again be encouraged instead of pet bottles Glass use another alternative. 2.Biodegradable plastic be made mandatory. 3.Timed eradication of plastic :Use of IV fluid in plastic bottles be replaced with glass,milk in plastics be replaced with glass by a statute and legally. 4. Use of plastics in public be replaced after a set timeline of say 1 April 2017-2020 5. Thereafter any mandatory use with recycling only
