New Knowledge, pedagogies and approaches for teaching of Science, Maths and Technology in School Education to improve learning outcomes of Students

Poor science and maths education (and English) accounts for 80 per cent of total students who fail in Tenth Board Examination. The low enrolment in science stream at higher secondary level and poor-quality education is a constraint in development of scientific manpower in the country. Science and Maths education would need special attention. We need to deliberate and find workable strategies for strengthening the quality of teaching & learning processes for better outcomes; innovations and diversity of approaches in matters of curricula, pedagogies and use of technology to improve the learning levels.

There must be a research encouraging approach towards science and maths education. the text books must contain stories of great scientists and mathematicians and pioneers of technology, Indians and otherwise. specially stories of young age. The environment of teaching science and mathematics should be non threatening and fun filled, for that some standard video course for teachers should be introduced online by govt. Some basic infrastructure standard rating should be maintained for schools.

Both Science and Math have been largely taught in a manner that it has traumatized children and rendered them with much less confidence than they had. On the contrary both these subjects have the potential to make classroom experience really interactive and rich.

1) In the first few years in school, the focus should be only on English/language. 2) For maths and Science, teach *only* the basics -- minimal things. The basics should be taught *repeatedly* year after year -- the same thing in different ways. So that by 10th, students least know the basics. What we should avoid is students completing 10th without knowing the basics. So teach only basics. Advanced stuff they can pick up later if they wish.

Sir, most important is to bring back the curiosity to learn new things and for science the experiments - everything today is geared towards marks and getting through an entrance exam. Also the basics which the child learns during classes 1 to 5 are just not being delivered in an interesting manner. What about Vedic Mathematics and the way Maths was taught earlier ? Could that be an option ?

We need to train teachers to educate students with day to day examples and applications of science and maths principles. Also please consider 24hr channel for students only, which can educate in science and maths with fun for examples "science of stupid" on National Geographic. Also widen the scope of career opportunities that a student sees in science and maths, right now only engineering and doctor. Educate research fields like geo science, marine, environment, clean energy etc. Make an ebook

The science, maths etc books in regional languages should have English nomenclature for scientific terms so that there is continuity in learning. Student has to learn English names for the concepts in higher education if he studied those concepts in his/her mother-tongue in school.
