The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in collaboration with MyGov invites the youth of India to come forward, pick up your phone, and create compelling reels showcasing how GI products can shape your future, your community, and India’s identity. Your video could inspire millions to choose authentic, local, and sustainable.
Mission: To promote, protect, and globally position India’s Geographical Indication (GI) products, ensuring rightful recognition for their unique heritage, regional identity, and craftsmanship. DPIIT aims to strengthen India’s intellectual property ecosystem and boost the visibility, value, and market access of GI‑registered products across the world.
Vision: To build “Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi”—a future where India’s heritage products, indigenous skills, acquired uniqueness, and cultural excellence gain prominence through GI protection. DPIIT envisions strengthening the rural economy by empowering artisans and farmers and making GI products symbols of premium Indian quality.
Ministry / Department mention: This initiative is led by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.

Themes of the competition are -
Theme 1: The Pride of India’s Soil - “We don’t just protect origins; we protect India’s identity.”
Every GI product is a story — handcrafted, sun ripened, rain washed, and perfected over generations. When you hold a GI product, you aren’t just holding an item—you’re holding a place, a culture, and a community.
i. India’s Living Geography: From the aromatic hills that grow world famous coffees to the valleys that weave magic into every thread, GI products are the living map of India—a celebration of diversity stitched across the nation.
ii. Guardians of Heritage: Like the railway tracks and bridges that carry India forward, GI tags safeguard traditions, ensuring that every craftsperson, farmer, and artisan continues to thrive with dignity.
iii. The Land’s Signature: Whether it’s a grain, a fabric, a spice, or a handcrafted marvel—if it carries the GI mark, it carries the soul of its origin.
Theme 2: India’s Shield & Star of Authenticity - “From ancient fields to global shelves.”
India’s GI products are more than commodities—they are national treasures.
i. Protecting Traditions: Just like our soldiers guard the borders, GI guards the identity of our heritage—from imitation, dilution, and misuse.
ii. Shining Globally: Each GI product is a star rising from its birthplace—whether a valley, a village, or a mountain range—traveling the world with India’s promise of authenticity.
iii. High Value Craftsmanship: From intricate tools crafted by master artisans to organic crops nurtured with indigenous wisdom, GI products represent India’s high precision cultural engineering—refined through centuries, trusted across continents.
Theme 3: There’s a Little Bit of India’s Heritage in Everyone’s Life - “More than a tag—a legacy.”
Behind every GI product is a community whose heartbeat shapes its quality.
i. Carried in Everyday Moments: The shawl you wrap around a loved one, the spice that reminds you of home, the coffee that starts your morning—many of these are GI treasures woven into your life.
ii. Empowering People: GI products support artisans, tribal communities, women’s cooperatives, farmers, and traditional craft clusters—ensuring livelihoods as strong as the roots they represent.
iii. A Nation of Craft, Culture & Care: GI is not just about recognition—it is about respecting heritage, uplifting communities, and celebrating the invisible hands that make India extraordinary.
Theme 4: Products Everywhere – Your Silent Cultural Companion - “The invisible heritage behind your day.”
Look around you, and you may find a GI story silently enriching your life.
i. In Your Home: The special rice in your biryani, the unique tea on your shelf, the handwoven fabric on your table—many are born in specific soils and cultures, protected as GI gifts.
ii. In Your City: Local markets shine with GI specialties—from pottery and textiles to spices and handcrafted goods—each carrying heritage from its home district.
iii. In Your Hands: From the cup of Araku coffee you brew to the Chanderi cloth you gift—GI products are the backbone of authenticity, blending tradition with everyday modern living.
