Though there have been significant gains in literacy rates, large gender, social and regional disparities in literacy levels persist. The gains in literacy levels are due to success of the adult education programmes and improvements in primary schooling. However, there is a further need to enhance the literacy levels of the socially marginalized groups and those living in rural areas through interventions of adult education programmes and open schooling systems. This theme seeks to elicit views on how we achieve faster progress in reducing the existing disparities in literacy levels.

The emphasis should be given not only on literacy levels but on quality of education in terms of morality, skill identification and development

it is the need of the hour.sc'c st's and minorities womens are far behind the mainstream.NIOS is the best source nowadays but not reachable to peoples who wants to work.its criterias should be easy and of short period.adult education needs more planing and changes.

To accelerate the women learning process, the timing of schooling should be changed according to their convenience. Whether housewife or a girl who helps her family in household things in rural area might be free in afternoon. So providing special time slots to woman will help them

Awareness programme at panchayat level will be conducted regularly about the importance of education. Specially trained teachers particularly from their areas or adjacent areas can be used for the purpose.They are encouraged by quoting examples of eminent personalities from backward communities. This will create an encouragement in them and also sending their children to schools.

IIMB consortium is doing tele-education in 1000 government rural schools in Karnataka in the backward region. This is satellite based multimedia education, with interaction facility through broadband or mobile phone. We started in November 2014 and is working very well. there are several requests now to expand to other schools. Government employees should be given points for promotions etc for the time they spent for accelerating rural literacy. There are many government employees interested in activities of teaching poor and destitute children . But, many of them are restricted by the government to promote such activities. Such things also should be considered .

primary education should be in mother tongue ,not in foreign language Medium of education at secondary school level should be in Hindi or in a language included in the 8th schedule of the constitution of India
