With a dramatic growth in elementary education enrolments and improvements in retention and transition rates in recent years, particularly amongst the more disadvantaged groups, there is an increasing pressure on the secondary schools to admit more students. With the enforcement of RTE Act and further improvement in retention and transition rates, demand for secondary schooling will grow rapidly in the coming years. The objective of this discussion group is to assess to what extent we have made quality education available, accessible and affordable to the target population in the age group of 14–18 years. How we can increase access to post elementary education across the country in a manner so as to ensure no child is denied the opportunity of completing his/her school education. In particular, how can we address the geographical and social disparities in secondary education?

We day we have a dearth of teachers. Army retires at early age. So retired experienced people can serve as the best teachers. Instead the retired people are called senior citizen, they should be called senior teachers. In this way country will get experienced teachers and seniors will not be idle. The retired citizen will not have any limitation to go to city but can teach in the town/village from where they belong.

First of all increase the budgetary support at union and state Government level on Education. It should not be a meagre but substantial increase over current level.

The Education system in India needs a total reforms. I have some suggestions regarding this reforms. 1) The quality of education given in the govt. /govt. sponsored/ govt aided school should be improved as most of the students read in these schools. a) Teacher-Student ratio should be brought down to 30:1. b) Social activities in school should be increased. c) No. of English medium school should be increased. d) Salary of Teachers should be increased. e) Study of Ethics will be a must.

students are really confused about the field they want to choose. Because of imbalance in student- teacher ratio in class the teacher could hardly understand the child area of interest. Students because of parents pressure or due to peer pressure choose the stream without knowing what stream will lead him to which kind of job?. I would like to suggest that a subject should be introduced from class 8th to 10th which could teach a student about what kind of profession/business etc could a person

TOday education is a business , most institutes are run by politician and their kin. Stop this. Uniform syllabus, no state syllabus and central syllabus. One language and specialisation only. No sale of uniform or stationary in private schools by the management. Uniform fees till tenth, no additional fees like development, capitation, donation or any other equivalent term. one visit to science or culture museum mandatory. Industrial visits mandatory for children from 8th.

THe lack of a uniform education policy is the main reason for the state of education. Look at the karnatak assembly passing a resolution to make Kannada mandatory. How can this be implemented for non karnataka children? Education should not be listed under the State List. It is to be centrally formulated. 2. Make the policy clear> one language and core subjects of maths, culture and science till 7th. After seventh it is the specialisation with one language.

1.Ensure that all villages have a senior secondary school & faculties to teach students. 2.Devise smart techniques so that students would enjoy learning & utilize imparted education & retrieve in memory for longer time. Increase the level & quality of education imparted to students. Ensure through surveys that each & every kid from each corner of nation gets educated. Take a national level test to ensure that students understand the concepts being taught in school. Interact with students.

Gone are the days when private sector had no money to invest in education and therefore government had to take up the responsibility of providing education. Now, since there is resource and also interest in private sector to provide education; government must capitalize on the efficiency of private sector instead of investing taxpayers money into secondary schools. Students who can't afford should be empowered through vouchers or scholarship.
