With a dramatic growth in elementary education enrolments and improvements in retention and transition rates in recent years, particularly amongst the more disadvantaged groups, there is an increasing pressure on the secondary schools to admit more students. With the enforcement of RTE Act and further improvement in retention and transition rates, demand for secondary schooling will grow rapidly in the coming years. The objective of this discussion group is to assess to what extent we have made quality education available, accessible and affordable to the target population in the age group of 14–18 years. How we can increase access to post elementary education across the country in a manner so as to ensure no child is denied the opportunity of completing his/her school education. In particular, how can we address the geographical and social disparities in secondary education?

4. More number of choices should be given to the children to choose a vocation. 5. Regarding the subjects, all the subjects should be taught as at present till class 10. Only after class 10, they should be allowed to choose the subject as it presently going on. Thirdly, only the enrolment is assured through RTE. But, how to ensure what they have learnt and retained all these years? Moral and value education should be given importance to create socially responsive and mentally healthy citizens.

Secondly, if we consider the children of 14 yrs and above, they are more susceptible to become child labour (or child marriage in case of girls). So the only way to retain them in the schools is to: 1. Introduce vocational education (carpentry, beautician course, electrical, computers, etc.) 2. Allow them to earn while learning. Their earning should be given at the end of the academic year. 3. Option should be given to the children to choose only academic or vocational along with academic.

Dear All, the term ‘disadvantaged’ in the sense should include all those who are: 1. Economically backward 2. First generation learners 3. Geographically isolated areas or those in the areas vulnerable to natural calamities. But disadvantaged should never be based on the caste.

Hello Sir, our education system is about to crash because as per the new guidelines by C.B.S.E board the new C.C.E is applicable due to which almost every one is able to pass the 10th class and 12th as well but we don't have that much no. of govt. colleges due to which students have to go to private institutions and pay heavy fees and those, who are not able to pay they not getting admission in college. Even private institutes are not providing the proper education upto the mark. Regards

Respected Sir, we can make a system in which every household or shop employing children, shall be made responsible for providing education to them. Education courses can designed in such a manner that such children can be given say 2 hrs of education per day and a meal in school. plus their teacher shall be responsible for their attendance, leaning & health. Working children are a highly exploited section esp in urban areas, may be we can help them by such a dual responsibility model. Regards
