Dadra & Nagar Haveli is well connected by road and Rail with rest of the country. The NH-8 provides the major road connectivity to the study area. With rapid Urbanization and industrial growth in Dadra & Nagar Haveli UT, the population and vehicles have increased rapidly in the recent past years. This resulted in traffic congestion in the urban areas. UT Administration has frequently initiated steps for betterment of heavy vehicular traffic plying in this UT and having appreciated the existing problems and constraints felt that there is a strong need for improvement of Infrastructure in Road Sector in a planned manner to meet the growing demand.

The Report provides information about the regulatory and economic context in which the Territory’s heavy vehicle industrial traffic operates. It addresses forecasts of future vehicle traffic and measures in place to manage heavy vehicle safety issues within the urban area of this UT of Dadra & Nagar Haveli. The Taskforce has used the information gathered to assess potential risks and identify opportunities to improve road safety outcomes for all road users in UT of Dadra & Nagar Haveli.

The term traffic safety refers to the risk of a person being killed or seriously injured while using the traffic network as a pedestrian, cyclist or user of public or private transport. We do not know if we indeed have heavy traffic unless we (the citizen) follow the traffic rules and authorities enforce them effectively. In foreign countries, e.g. in the US almost all junctions have high resolution traffic cameras which record video and take photos on violators. Centralized traffic operations center exist at each city where violators of red signals get automatic tickets (challans) at the home via post with a CD (showing the video of traffic violation) & number plate photo.

Thank PM Narendra Damodar Das Modiji for offering to comments. I do pass comments as follow: 1. The presence of Traffic Police is essential in the busy roads to instruct, educate and control the traffic. Traffic rules may be fixed in each circle to take turn. Patrolling traffic police should fine during overtaking, too much noisy horn, too much combustion

Proper road marking's, speed limits and fines to make people start following. Which if done daily for 1 year will make people do follow rules and not forget.

Lack of driving sense, nobody has proper knowledge of driving rules as no proper test are taken before somebody gets a driving license. Let driving license be taken at specific places on PC with camera serviliance. Also practical driving test should be taken on road or on places which test driving. I would pray to get it corruption free... i pray

Promoting cycling step 2 All new roads being built in all new cities and old cities will be forced to have combined cycling track + pedestrian track. Step 3 Introduce free cycle parking place with easy lock and provide security from pilferage Step 4 Train all traffic police to provide protection for the cyclist

Sir, I have certain ideas on traffic control which is not specific to Dadra & Nagar Haveli, rather it is applicable for entire India. We need to promote cycling as a way of commuting. Convert all footpath into a cycling track as well for pedestrian. Level the footpath to street level and put small raised boundary just high enough to stop motor vehicle to come on this cycle+pedestrian area. Every time a road is being tarred, the footpath also to be tarred and kept at same level.
