India is the World’s second largest producer of Fruits & Vegetables. However, the processing of perishable products in our country is very low, in comparison to the developed countries or developing countries like China, Brazil, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc. One of the main constraints in the growth of processing of fruits & vegetables in the country is non-availability of modern and suitable infrastructure with efficient supply Chain. Consequently, there is very high level of wastage of the fruits & vegetables in the country resulting in the farmer not getting adequate remuneration for his yield. A study conducted by Central Institute of Post Harvesting Engineering Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana, an ICAR institute, reveals that wastage in various agricultural crops in the country range from 6-18% and the highest loss has been shown in fruits and vegetables.

Ministry of Food processing Industries invites views/ suggestions for reduction of these losses.

Last date for sending your suggestions is 1st February 2015.

When you expect very good as well as innovative ideas to apply on an important issue, why do not you allow pdf and other formats to upload? My concept can not be said in this 500 letters.

1) Education of farmers through Agricultural University...As in India still lot of people doesn't know the reason of the pot harvest losses.... 2) Better Transportation

We need laws to stop illegal construction illegal school colleges eng medical college MBA colleges university. False degree. Doctors. Consumer rights protected middle class being taken ride by builders laws which are there in acted in right spirits people get license without paying bride police registering complaints. etc etc

The problem with such questions is that they are highly technical and subject to intricate situational factors. A big problem is predicting the length of time and the supply requirements at each level. This creates a situation when there are deadlocks and the stock is kept in places where they are not required, far out of the reach of others. We need to predict the demand better and that means all year round survey of the population at the district level and knowing the needs.

Few general suggestions can we same infrastructure which BJP used for campaigning in villages 3Dimages etc to educate and change of mindset people on clean india use of toilets etc Also it is important to start housing for all scheme parallel where poor people can get pucca house with toilets along with hospital and school atleast tht slump will get cleaned maybe place like dharvi which long overdue can start other urban cities can start identifying plus rule no further illegal colonies

Training should be given to handlers about how to handle fruits and vegetables while loading or unloading. It has been to our notice lately that our trucking service providers do not follow trucking norms. e.g. the limit of truck load is 'x' kgs then they put 'x+x' kgs. strict action should be taken. we should also build cold storage system at various places to ensure they are stored well if not sold directly.

Maximum loss of fruits and vegetables caused mainly during Transportation & preservation problem, Preservation unit should be created at block level which will maintain the price level and reduce losses of fruits and vegetables.

Whole sale and retails markets to be opened on NHS near and around Farming houses. Facility to have cold storage and where housing under the bridges and vacant lands on NHS.
