India is the World’s second largest producer of Fruits & Vegetables. However, the processing of perishable products in our country is very low, in comparison to the developed countries or developing countries like China, Brazil, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc. One of the main constraints in the growth of processing of fruits & vegetables in the country is non-availability of modern and suitable infrastructure with efficient supply Chain. Consequently, there is very high level of wastage of the fruits & vegetables in the country resulting in the farmer not getting adequate remuneration for his yield. A study conducted by Central Institute of Post Harvesting Engineering Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana, an ICAR institute, reveals that wastage in various agricultural crops in the country range from 6-18% and the highest loss has been shown in fruits and vegetables.

Ministry of Food processing Industries invites views/ suggestions for reduction of these losses.

Last date for sending your suggestions is 1st February 2015.

cold storage facilities must be provided in every taluk. The farmers should get their price.middle men should be eliminated. Lot of food is being wasted in functions which can be given to roadside poor people . volunteers can come forward.

1) reduce intermediaries in the supply chain. 2) Create infrastructure for direct selling from farmers/villages/districts to consumers. 3) Create co-operatives like Amul. 4) Create cold-storage facilities near production areas. 5) Use irradiation and other techniques to increase shelf life

Suggestion is to contact farmers in peak time when vegetables are entering to the market . So that krishi OR APMC Officials can contact byers accordingly .. MR MODI please keep an eye on this issue as serious amend . In Karnataka it happens very of-fan , no CM has concern on farmers what they grow and how to make profit to the each farmer accordingly . very sad to say. Million of rupees and crops where wasting in yoy

This has a few aspects - Technology - have packing and freezing facilities located close to growers Logistics - better roads, refrigerated warehouses,24 hr electricity Training and education - for the farmers Financial incentives - to install and use technology Of the above better roads should be the first priority. Railways too can play a part. All others require massive technology investment

we can go for the cold storage of fruits and vegetables in the respective area. we can set up stalls for the selling of fruits and vegetables immediately after the harvest season . With respect to the season of fruits and vegetables.

Majority of our farmers go by traditional way of farming and processing.Proper training to them with illustrations on efficient post harvest processing (if required with newer technology based procedures) will definitely improve the situation

Our farmer make so much hard work on their products but lack of proper technology the can't save their products for long time. We have to give them some cooling facilities near to their field. Some companies should be ready to transport their products in aircondition vehicles

Big Corporates should be given the compulsory responsibility of developing of agriculture not only in the supply chain but the entire process of agriculture. Then the grievances of farmers can be addressed easily. Each corporate should adopt 1 or more villages . Farmers are the backbone of this country
