India is the World’s second largest producer of Fruits & Vegetables. However, the processing of perishable products in our country is very low, in comparison to the developed countries or developing countries like China, Brazil, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc. One of the main constraints in the growth of processing of fruits & vegetables in the country is non-availability of modern and suitable infrastructure with efficient supply Chain. Consequently, there is very high level of wastage of the fruits & vegetables in the country resulting in the farmer not getting adequate remuneration for his yield. A study conducted by Central Institute of Post Harvesting Engineering Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana, an ICAR institute, reveals that wastage in various agricultural crops in the country range from 6-18% and the highest loss has been shown in fruits and vegetables.

Ministry of Food processing Industries invites views/ suggestions for reduction of these losses.

Last date for sending your suggestions is 1st February 2015.

by providing new high tech means for collection of fruits and vegetables from the field as farmers do this job manually. for examples we collect wheat, rice from field and wastage of these crops are very less because total work done by the machines only. We should also improve quality of our vegetables mandis. We often sees in foreign contries there vegetables mandis are very clean. there should be rules and regulations for set up of mandies. the work can be given to local bodies.

there is much to suggest about it, first agrobased quality industries,stores plants, within the rich of farmers should be made available to farmers. time is gone to remeber farmers in election only.देश के कई भाग ऐसे ही जहा सब्जीवाले इलाखे, फल लेणे वाले इलाके है, वाहा ऐसी सुविधा विना मूल्य उपलब्ध होणा चाहिये.

Gov should reduce the handlers between consumers and farmers. I think even pvt cos like reliance fresh or big bazar should have a online platforms for farmers to post advert as soon as they harvest. And the logistics can be handelled by these pvt sector companies or gov. This will reduce the middle man and also wastage of time to market and qty to market will be reduce drastically. It will be a reverse business model to that of e retailers. Where the big companies will buy their stocks frm farme

Swachh Bharat, Clean Ganga and other important missions should be taken up with the same zeal as Polio Free India. A few years of such intense efforts by Govt, followed by a robust system that monitors the practices for sustaining it, will work wonders
