India is the World’s second largest producer of Fruits & Vegetables. However, the processing of perishable products in our country is very low, in comparison to the developed countries or developing countries like China, Brazil, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc. One of the main constraints in the growth of processing of fruits & vegetables in the country is non-availability of modern and suitable infrastructure with efficient supply Chain. Consequently, there is very high level of wastage of the fruits & vegetables in the country resulting in the farmer not getting adequate remuneration for his yield. A study conducted by Central Institute of Post Harvesting Engineering Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana, an ICAR institute, reveals that wastage in various agricultural crops in the country range from 6-18% and the highest loss has been shown in fruits and vegetables.

Ministry of Food processing Industries invites views/ suggestions for reduction of these losses.

Last date for sending your suggestions is 1st February 2015.

Few solutions on few broader issues India is facing today. 1. Black money - If our economy has to grow faster, we need money to create infrastructure, R&D. Of course, FDI is welcome, but at any cost, we need to bring the black money back. 2. Quality of Education: needs to improved from the root level. Think of INDIA, if every university provides education on par with IITs & IIMs. 3. Energy Efficiency: India should become energy efficient by installing solar, nuclear plants at a faster rate.

Public holidays ,related with the religion. Holidays only to be availed by the specific religion and it shouldn't be for everyone , offices should open on the occasions, I mean on Hindu holiday Muslim ,Christian and others attend the office, like on Muslims festival Hindu attend the office. There will be a provision to take a Restric Holida if other community wants to avail the religious holiday not of theirs parents rereligion. This will helps to cut short the more closing of the offices,

I have no such experience or idea. But I think to reduce losses we have to understand causes first. And that can only be explained by people engaged in this activities and business. I would suggest to make a committee (only of educated people) to study this causes and create a report with best possible solutions. For that they must go to other countries also to understand how they fight against this issue. Two more important things: 1) good salary package to committee 2) time limit for report

I want to reiterate my earlier suggestion I repeat here. I want Mr Modi to start another movement after clean India Movement BHUKH MITAO (remove hunger) movement.Mr Modi appeal has great effect.let us launch new club where one crore people will be member and each member will pledge to give food to 5 hungry people every day.this will make 5 crore hungry people happy. This step will not only unite India but will create nationalism.I offer myself as first member of this would be (hopefully) club.

Interest free loans to the producers of fruits & vegetables, and to the small working groups varying from 3-5 members should be provided for the purchases of large refrigerators so that to increase shelf life of the products. Young unemployed people shall be given this opportunity to avail interest free, or low rate interest loan, with this they shall be provided some technical assistance to increase the productivity through skill development program. People of rural & semi urban could benefit.
