India is the World’s second largest producer of Fruits & Vegetables. However, the processing of perishable products in our country is very low, in comparison to the developed countries or developing countries like China, Brazil, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc. One of the main constraints in the growth of processing of fruits & vegetables in the country is non-availability of modern and suitable infrastructure with efficient supply Chain. Consequently, there is very high level of wastage of the fruits & vegetables in the country resulting in the farmer not getting adequate remuneration for his yield. A study conducted by Central Institute of Post Harvesting Engineering Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana, an ICAR institute, reveals that wastage in various agricultural crops in the country range from 6-18% and the highest loss has been shown in fruits and vegetables.

Ministry of Food processing Industries invites views/ suggestions for reduction of these losses.

Last date for sending your suggestions is 1st February 2015.

GST is a great tool to curb inflation as it will avoid cascading effect of some taxes which become part of the cost. I hope this government passes the GST Law as soon as possible to bring about a drastic and most wanted change in taxation field and the economy.

1.well for this u need portable food management stores like high quality trucks and vehicles which have refrigerators and good environmental conditions for transport of food material which will reduce the losses by a significant amount 2. the food map being created is a great initiative taken by you govt and u must give subsidy for start ups which process the food itself at the local level like u have oranges in punjab which can be processed into pulp right away like tropicana juice

Param pujya PRADHAN MANTRI ji, nitya Dino ka charan sparsh, is sandarv me kahna chahunga ki ptatyek district wise ek kisan agricultural Kendra ka asthapna kiya jaye uske paschat sare jile me ye advertising kar diya jaye ki sare kisan bhai is Kendra ko apna fruits aur vegetable sale kare aur paisa le us kisaan Kendra ko ye market rahega ki wo packing kar metro city or industry sector ko mal sale kare patantu iske liye ek comeetee banana hoga jo sirf ye kaam ko anjam degi iska praroop taiyaar karn

There are several ways to reduce post harvest losses. Pepole are not aware of it. Need to give training at gram panchayat level.

Ready harvest should be collected by cold storage/AC govt vehicles of Agriculture produce committees or Federations.Improvement of village roads and State transport facilities for transportation of produce is badly required ...since independence these are neglected areas.Special category or priority may be marked for agri products transportation as done by Airways transport in case of flowers. Packing should be taught to farmers urgently.

Adopting the co-operative model similar Amul might prove very effective. Such a structure may have as many tiers as deemed necessary with the 3 main tiers- village vegetable cooperative society- district level union and a state level union.
