India is the World’s second largest producer of Fruits & Vegetables. However, the processing of perishable products in our country is very low, in comparison to the developed countries or developing countries like China, Brazil, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc. One of the main constraints in the growth of processing of fruits & vegetables in the country is non-availability of modern and suitable infrastructure with efficient supply Chain. Consequently, there is very high level of wastage of the fruits & vegetables in the country resulting in the farmer not getting adequate remuneration for his yield. A study conducted by Central Institute of Post Harvesting Engineering Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana, an ICAR institute, reveals that wastage in various agricultural crops in the country range from 6-18% and the highest loss has been shown in fruits and vegetables.

Ministry of Food processing Industries invites views/ suggestions for reduction of these losses.

Last date for sending your suggestions is 1st February 2015.

Group of village could be turned into grid type structure attached with transportation and mandi link system. Farmers through subscription of services from post harvest grid can use it by paying fees on hourly/weekly/monthly.We have to pool available subsidy and make it market centric.The infrastructure should not only address post harvesting loss but dynamic enough to bring farmers on next stage of quality life.

Make Australian university to open their campus in which will bring investment value addition in education as lots of Indian going Australia for heigher education For them they will get more students which in turn more profit so win win situation

Innovations are necessary in the usage of Handling /storage equipments. Just like we use plastics crates for Tomoto / Banana a product to be used for other vegetables. Cold storage may be constructed in each taluk depending upon the Need thro' Co-op Sector

Lot of improvement and use of modern technology for storage , records is today's need. FCI needs to have private industries participation for such activities. Every thing can not be done by at Government Level.

I think its high time FCI makes use of technology. Platforms like SAP can be used were all the data of all the FCI go downs can be stored and monitored real time. This is make sure govt has exact position of all the harvest and they are able to decide what to import and what to export. This is lessen the fire fighting and will certainly improve the way we use our harvest. Make the local FCI team responsible for data entry and maintenance and enable a mechanism which controls supply with in FCI.

For this institutions like f.c.i.would hv to improve their infrastructure and its staff would have to get rid off high handedness it shows while dealing with farmers.moreover more than anything government institutions would have to learn to deal with producers empathetically.no amount of provisions or facilities will be of any use unless their is a robust system to penalise the people behind mis-management.

Give incentives for building Cold Storage. Promote it so that general investors know the profitability in building cold storages.

1. First we don't need FDI, we need agency like AMUL or SAFAL who buy directly from farmers and build a network with them (say suppliers/producers). 2.In India may it be Metro/Semi-Metro or small cities supply chain is Farmer-->Mandi-->Brokers-->Wholeseller-->Retailers/Thela vendors. Why can't we have a e-Rickshaw type vendors who works as distributors for AMUL and Safal door to door. 3-Another functions of centralized agency should be: a)Link with Exporters. b)Educate farmers c)Cold store

A Special Pass in the Trains and Buses to Transport the Post-Harvest Fruits and Vegetables will basically help the Farmers to move the Harvest to desired Cities to Sell. Also if we setup a Separate Vegetable and Fruit BAJAARs where only Farmers has the Right to sell, then it gives better opportunities to the Farmers. FIC - Farmer-Identity-Card be introduced with proper Survey of real farmers and keep out the Middle man may also Help.

Big APMC yards has become only a breeding ground for Buy & Sell, and Dallal Activities, Now all APMC yard should be equipped with cold storage facilities, be it private, or PPP model, Farmers should be given access on rental basis for keeping his Post Harvest Products, Railways has more assets, Cold Storage should also come up near main station to facilitate easy transport, allow Cold storage companies to build cold storage and let them charge rent for it. Agri university should be involved
