India is the World’s second largest producer of Fruits & Vegetables. However, the processing of perishable products in our country is very low, in comparison to the developed countries or developing countries like China, Brazil, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc. One of the main constraints in the growth of processing of fruits & vegetables in the country is non-availability of modern and suitable infrastructure with efficient supply Chain. Consequently, there is very high level of wastage of the fruits & vegetables in the country resulting in the farmer not getting adequate remuneration for his yield. A study conducted by Central Institute of Post Harvesting Engineering Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana, an ICAR institute, reveals that wastage in various agricultural crops in the country range from 6-18% and the highest loss has been shown in fruits and vegetables.

Ministry of Food processing Industries invites views/ suggestions for reduction of these losses.

Last date for sending your suggestions is 1st February 2015.

develop an analytical framework for major quality control and logistics control activities that can affect after-harvest losses, and the technological and management context factors that can affect their performance and production as well. Next, the analytical framework will be ope-rationalized into a detective system analysis tool to analyze the relevant performance of quality and logistics control activities, and to assess the vulnerability of the product,after this it may distribute to poors

AS MANY NUTRITIONISTS HAVE RECOMMENDED THAT A PERSON SHOULD EAT- FIVE TIMES A DAY- FRUITS( & SUCH VEGETABLES WHICH ONE CAN EAT-RAW)- PEOPLE IN VILLAGES AND CITIES SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED TO EAT 5 TIMES A DAY-THE ABOVE ITEMS- AFTER THOROUGHLY WASHING(AND STEAMING/ BOILING IN WATER- IF AT ALL NECESSARY). SEASONAL FRUITS AND VEGETABLES WILL BE CHEAP ALSO.

9. Market places at cities/towns to be well developed with all utilities. 10. co- societies/farmers shall be allowed to open retail chains at different parts of towns/cities. Proper mini logistic facility shall be ensured by govt. to give them permissions. 11. Garbage collection to be developed/implemented in such a way to identify the vendors who are violating or wasting the products in un acceptable manners. 12. It shall be a closed loop right from production to the consumption.

NRIs, PIOs, etc. in AUSTRALIA SHOULD BE invited to work towards development of INDIA(LIKE EARLIER THE P.M. HAD INVITED IN HIS ADDRESS TO THE NRIs, PIOs in U.S.A.). AS Oz. is quite near to INDIA, THEY will happily accept the invitation.

6. Farmers shall be allowed to establish their own co.societies through which they may establish their own Dedicated logistic chain for selected area/ type of product etc. Govt. shall think of commercial help to do so. 7. Govt. shall purchase the product directly from farmers with formation of effective marketing groups. 8. Research to be made on production v/s. consumption trends by marketing wing and shall supply the same accordingly as per obtained data.

The Simplest & the cheapest way of controlling post harvest losses of fruits & vegetables at individual level is to use of ozone treatment foe couple of min. max. which increases the shelf life up to 72 hours. 20mgm/ hr. is enough and may not cost more than Rs.3000. This has many more daily applications as repelling of insects at night, germ free water for drinking to the extent of destroying the eggs of thread & ring worms. For Tech. Our farmers at ground level must be facing so many problems to sell there product if wholesale buyer. make part against them on price bargain.govt should directly buy things from them on fixed rate and supply it to mandi.both farmer and other indian can get it. in assured price and chances of getting it waste will be reduced.it should be implemented with honesty and without being bias to anyone.

1. Soil testing across country for all agricultural land and deciding the the best possible product. 2. Statewise/Areawise,To make a data bank of type of land & type of vegetable/fruits to be produced. 3. Time frame to be decided for type of fruits/vegetables to be produced. 4.Researched technical data to be obtained from above study,cold storages/preservative technique to be developed across the country. 5. Logistic parks to be developed and Road connectivity to be improved at required location
