I have one suggestion regarding the usage (or wastage) of water in urban area. We don't have the system of individual meters for water usage. So people are not much concerned about the water usage at their home. Any many colonies the water bill per month is shared by all members depending on the apartment area. This is not an efficient method. In Singapore where I am staying now, they have individual meter for every home. Thus everyone is charged for the actual usage water.

In villages,semi-urban areas, there is lack of entertainment like Boat riding, parks etc where people can spend their time off in leisure times.While the per-capita income is rising in rural and semi-urban areas,for the sake of entertainment, they have to travel distances to fetch for entertainment.If artificial lakes are provided in villages and semi-urban areas which would also be utilised as watershed structures, both the purposes serve better.

Thereby a good river linking project or canal project, providing water from these rivers to areas which face water shortage can take agriculture to greater heights.

River linking project needs to be reopened by our government, for example in my state Karnataka there are rivers like Kaveri, Krishna,Tungabhadra, Ghataprabha, Malaprabha, Sharavathi, and many more small rivers. In spite of abundance of water resource we have a kaveri river conflict with TamilNadu, Krishna river conflict with Andhra and Drought situations in northern Karnataka districts. Its also sad to note that many of these river flow untapped into the sea mainly west-flowing rivers.

We may use polythene on the base of stop dams so to protect water seepage during summer. We may also use stone pitching in the base if stone easily available their. Drip irrigation in forestation may also improve success rate of forestation and saving of water.

Bore wells and tube wells are wealth of the nation.Why not users be charged for tapping these resources beyond the daily requirement so that water is not wasted thereby enlightening one that bore wells dug in their jurisdictions is not their property.This would save much ground water after taking these measures.
