India is one of the leaders in sustainable development and clean energy. With the Hon PM Narendra Modi-led government’s reform-oriented, environment-friendly policies, the country has time & again shown that sound environmental policies can pave the way to a sound economy.

At the UN Climate Change Conference COP26 in 2021, PM Shri Narendra Modi announced the ‘LiFE’, a mission to bring individual behavioural change at the forefront of the global climate action narrative. LIFE or Lifestyle for Environment along with the ‘Pro Planet People’ movement, aims to strengthen the efforts to overcome climate change.

LiFE will replace the prevailing 'use-and-throw’ thinking with an environmentally conscious lifestyle. The Mission is to create a global community of ‘Pro-Planet People’ (P3), who with their shared commitment will adopt and promote environmentally friendly lifestyles.

Individual Efforts Are Key to Climate Commitment

India's traditional knowledge strongly positions it to lead the narrative of addressing climate change. Like many other mass movements, LiFE aims to inspire climate action based on the mantra of ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’.

MyGov invites you to share your ideas and suggestions on how to adapt to an environmentally conscious lifestyle.

1. Reduce
2. Reuse
3. Recycle
4. Renewable
5. Recover
6. Re-design
7. Re-manufacture

Few examples for the above:
Reduce - Electricity, Fuel Usage
Reuse - Old Clothes, Electronics, Building materials, furniture
Recycle - Plastic, newspapers, cartons, boxes
Renewable - Solar, Wind, Hydro, Tidal, Geothermal & Biomass
Recover - Forests, rivers, soil, mountains, wildlife
Redesign - Green buildings
Remanufacture - E-waste for new purposes

Our civilisational values have taught us the importance of living in harmony with nature. Today, let’s come together to protect our environment & take forward Mission LiFE - Lifestyle for Environment.

Many companies have written to government to postpone the effective date of ban on single use plastic just because they are not able to find the substitute of plastic straws to pierce and drink juice from tetra-pack. In my opinion they may try following options: 1) Bamboo sticks can be machined and a hole can be pierced through the length of this stick. This will also support National Bamboo Mission. 2) Use "Sarkanda" (सरकंडा) sticks with which "Muddha" (मूढ़ा) is made. These sticks are easily available in plenty. These have the advantage that they a natural round smooth outer and a soft core. So, there would be no need of machining outer surface. Soft inner core can be removed with wire piercing. 3) Another natural material with round smooth outer and soft inner core is stick which is used in manufacturing "Phool Jhadoo" (फूल झाड़ू).

Reduce noise pollution by not honking to the greatest extent possible. Replace one time use products with long-term usage items. Recycle or collect and give items to those who use the same for recycling process, especially plastic ware. Use natural sun light wherever feasible instead of electric lights. Recover Greenery by mandatorily growing at least one plant in a house. Redesign glass buildings which absorb and release a lot of heat to the environment thereby increasing temperature, also causing death of birds as they tend to hit the glass with force while flying. Re-manufacture maximum extent of products with biodegradable, minimum water and power consuming materials. To Follow Nature Friendly Practices and Clean Environment rules by not littering, spitting or disposing unwanted things and garbage in a hapazard manner. Join hands with those volunteers who conduct various Clean Earth campaign either by directly taking part or by supporting their activities. Regards, Bharathi
