India is one of the leaders in sustainable development and clean energy. With the Hon PM Narendra Modi-led government’s reform-oriented, environment-friendly policies, the country has time & again shown that sound environmental policies can pave the way to a sound economy.

At the UN Climate Change Conference COP26 in 2021, PM Shri Narendra Modi announced the ‘LiFE’, a mission to bring individual behavioural change at the forefront of the global climate action narrative. LIFE or Lifestyle for Environment along with the ‘Pro Planet People’ movement, aims to strengthen the efforts to overcome climate change.

LiFE will replace the prevailing 'use-and-throw’ thinking with an environmentally conscious lifestyle. The Mission is to create a global community of ‘Pro-Planet People’ (P3), who with their shared commitment will adopt and promote environmentally friendly lifestyles.

Individual Efforts Are Key to Climate Commitment

India's traditional knowledge strongly positions it to lead the narrative of addressing climate change. Like many other mass movements, LiFE aims to inspire climate action based on the mantra of ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’.

MyGov invites you to share your ideas and suggestions on how to adapt to an environmentally conscious lifestyle.

1. Reduce
2. Reuse
3. Recycle
4. Renewable
5. Recover
6. Re-design
7. Re-manufacture

Few examples for the above:

Reuse - Old Clothes, Electronics, Building materials, furniture
Recycle - Plastic, newspapers, cartons, boxes
Renewable - Solar, Wind, Hydro, Tidal, Geothermal & Biomass
Recover - Forests, rivers, soil, mountains, wildlife

Our civilisational values have taught us the importance of living in harmony with nature. Today, let’s come together to protect our environment & take forward Mission LiFE - Lifestyle for Environment.

Using the latest GIS data, an all India canal network (at least 20m wide and 40m deep) needs to be set up across India to link rivers, provide internal navigation for small boats and cargo vessels and also help local fishing.

India needs to have a relook on its agricultural sector. India produces way too much of basmati rice, potatoes, sugarcane, tea, and cotton. Their cultivation takes up too much of land and resources (water, fertilizers, human resources etc.). Instead India should diversify into growing more of sesame, groundnuts, pulses, fruits and vegetables so that the diet of the Indians can be improved and also India can reduce its dependence on cooking oil imported from abroad.

Urban and Suburban India has majority of people living in high-rise apartments today. This constitutes over 1/3 of the population and human waste management to generate biogas could go a long way in creating new energy resources, especially for industries and the remains would make for good soil. This can be done by coming up with innovative toilets and human waste collection.

Protecting the environment starts with you: 1. BIKE MORE DRIVE LESS- People must develop a habit of biking to nearby places instead of driving. 2. EDUCATE- When you further your knowledge, you re helping the environment by spreading awareness. 3. VOLUNTEER- Volunteer for clean ups in your community, you can get involved in protecting your watershed too. 4. REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE- Follow the rule of 3R's to conserve resources and landfill space. 5. SHOP WISELY- Don't buy things which are rarely used in your house otherwise it will mean you are wasting a product which could be useful to someone else. 6. CONSERVE WATER- Set a limit for the use of water and see if the water used exceeds it, it won't as when you don't have any limit you just go on and on wasting water.
