With the GST coming into effect from 1st July, 2017, the biggest indirect tax reform of independent India, is going to transform the way indirect tax is administered in this country, impacting not just businesses but also the common man. GST is a tax on consumption of goods and services, which is levied at all stages right from manufacturing up to final consumption, with credit of taxes paid at previous stages available as setoff. It is going to remove the tax-on-tax effect through separate Central and State tax laws. In a nutshell, under GST, only value addition will be taxed , hence, reducing the burden of tax to be borne by the final consumer.

The most fundamental change in GST besides the consolidation of multiple taxes, is the use of a robust shared IT infrastructure in its operations. All the forms related to registrations, filing returns and other related activities can now be done through the GSTN Portal.

GST will help build an economically stronger India, with 'One Nation, One Tax, One Market.'

I'v registered a flat on 22.06.17 at Navi Mumbai which is under-construction & installment will start from Aug-17. Now builder said I'v to GST @ 12%. At the time of booking S.Tax+MVAT was 5.5%. Before 01.01.17 there is no option for input credit of VAT for builder. Now they can take input credit against GST on materials as buyer pay GST. But builder is not agree to share the benefit, because they told you are bound to pay GST as per agreement. Please advise how I can take action legally.

GST must be on manufacturing cost instead of MRP(Maxmimum Retail Price). Manufacturing cost also must be printed on product.

We sell our Products Ex Works and arrange transportation for the product to the customer and claim the freight charges & Insurance and mention the same in our Invoice. Under the GST,we are supposed to charge full GST applicable to our product on Freight & Insurance also. At the same time, under RCM,we have to pay 5% on Freight charges . Is it not duplication?? Can you please clarify what is the right procedure??

We are registered under GST. Earlier the products manufactured by us used to get Exemption from Payment of Excise Duty against form I. This facility was provided by the Government to promote the Cold Storage sector which preserves agricultural products. In the GST regime, our Product has been attracting GST @28% . Can you confirm whether the earlier Excise duty exemption would still prevail to the end users or they will have to pay full duty and apply for exemption from the Govt for refund ?

I have car lease so EMI includes car price+road tax+other tax paid while purchasing. Now post GST, my EMI (earlier EMI+13.13 tax) has been changed exorbitant high due to 28% GST and 15% compensation cess. It is a unjustified burden to service class where my EMI base amount already calculating the tax paid while purchasing in addition to this GST and compensation cess.
