Ranchi has been selected by MoUD, GoI under Smart City Mission Phase-I 100 cities. In the next phase, Ranchi has to compete with 98 other cities from across the country to make it into the Top 20 cities which will be taken up for the first round of funding, for the financial year 2015-16.

Citizens and stakeholders of Ranchi are requested to post their views and suggestions on how to make Ranchi a Smart City. Citizens are requested to suggest innovative, sustainable and SMART solutions regarding services for under below area based strategies:

Vision: The vision of Smart Ranchi has to be citizen-centred,should be based on the strength and opportunities, should take into consideration the weaknesses and threats and overall it addresses many aspirations of the citizens.

Goals: To drive economic growth and improve the quality of life of people by enabling local area development and harnessing technology, especially technology that leads to Smart outcomes. These goals can be achieved using the following initiatives/solutions:

1. PAN City Solution:A pan-city solution should benefit the entire city. The Smart Solution should be IT enabled and improve governance or public services. Shortlisted smart cities may propose one or two such Smart Solutions. It could improve aspects of the city’s governance or public services for all citizens. Generally, ‘smartness’ refers to doing more with less, building upon existing infrastructural assets and resources and proposing resource efficient initiatives.

2. Area Based Development:The area-based proposal is the key element of the proposal. An area-based proposal will identify an area of the city that has been selected through desk research, analysis, meetings with public representatives, prominent citizens, and citizen engagement as the appropriate site for either of three types of development:

a. retrofitting (approx. 500 acres),
b. redevelopment (approx. 50 acres)
c. Greenfield development (approx. 250 acres).

This area will be developed into a ‘smart’ area, which incorporates all the smart features.
