Widespread malnutrition is largely a result of dietary inadequacy and unhealthy lifestyles. Other contributing factors are poor purchasing power, faulty feeding habits, large family size, frequent infections, poor health care, inadequate sanitation and low agricultural production. Population living in the backward and drought-prone rural areas and urban slums, and those belonging to the socially backward groups.
