A multi-lingual society recognises the importance of education in languages. While there are some interventions for appointment of language teachers and promotion of classical languages, there is no comprehensive scheme or language policy and we need to have inputs on this dimension.

I was thrilled after watching a video of an MP village that is speaking Sanskrit. It is definitely not a dead language and can be brought back to main-stream easily. Just make it interesting. Have some cartoon movies, kids movies dubbed into Sanskrit and give it to kids for free or with nominal charge. A kid growing up with any language can pick up that language. Here in the USA, there are Indian Families raising their kids in Sanskrit. Add Sanskrit as a subject from Grade 1. It is really easy!

It is really easy to learn multiple Indian languages. Indian Language differ just slightly from each other and by exposing them at an early age, kids can pick up many languages very easily. For example folks from Mumbai are fluent in Gujarati, Marathi and Hindi. To enable this: Grade 1 - first language (say Marathi) Grade 2 - nearby state language (say Gujarati) Grade 3 - Hindi Grade 7-12 - Language from other parts of India. Multi-lingual Indians are must for future of India.

In languages develop, test and measure student's capabilities on grammar, various aspects of language, creative writing. Encourage them to write and play dramas, to make short movies. to write in newspapers, blogs etc. To enforce they do it - make Grade 12 students to do at-least one of such activity. Don't just mark them on their ability to remember and recite. That is not study of Language. Once they have interest in any language remembering part would be automatically taken care of. (2/2)

The way of teaching languages in India is fundamentally flawed. It encourages students to cram stories, poems etc but that is not what developing language skill is. To recite the entire poem is good, but developing an ability to write a new poem is more important. After each chapter/poem there are questions to test what the students have remembered. That should not be of that much importance. Rather the students should be able to analyze the story from linguistic aspects (1/2)

Languages should be compulsory in schools after all, language is the major aspect to build a personality and acquire good communication skills which helps in our day to day life and profession as well. Education of Sanskrit,Hindi,English and a mother tongue should be included in the syllabus.Sanskrit is the world's oldest language and itself is a Wikipedia of knowledge and wisdom. Sanskrit should be learnt to know Indian philosophy in a better way while English is must in today's globalized era.

Learning different languages increases intellect. Education of Hindi, Sanskrit and English should be must for all students. In any case they will learn their mother tongue by default, but if we keep them confined to only local language they may feel lacking in communication and professional skills.

Rural students are deprived of exposures to the global languages and the are getting less chance to succeed in life as compare to urban students, so its our duty to provide sufficient exposure to them and try to diminish the phobia in the minds of rural area students.
