Aizawl city is a beautiful hill town situated along a ridge in Mizoram. Besides its breath-taking beauty, Aizawl is the centre of administration containing all important Government offices, State Assembly House and Civil Secretariat.The population of Aizawl strongly reflects the different communities of the ethnic Mizo People where they maintain peaceful co-existence.This lively and bustling city is definitely enchanting and worth visiting.Its strategic location, pleasant climate, hilly topography and enchanting landscape along with high concentration of govt. amenities and facilities has attracted many people from its nearby villages, giving rise to a 2.6 lakh city of today.Aizawl is today a fast growing city. The city structure today shows that more growth has taken place towards the north and north-west direction as compared to the south, along the ridge lines.
Aizawl City is among the 100 shortlisted cities to participate in the Smart City Challenge. The Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation Department requests all those who consider Aizawl as their home and are interested in its development to join us in this journey to make Aizawl a smart city by providing us with your valuable suggestions on areas demanding improvement and potential solutions.
Citizens are requested to suggest innovative, sustainable and SMART solutions regarding services for under below area based strategies:
1. PAN City Initiative: Selection of a service by citizen for implementation of that service on entire city
2. Area Based Development: Selection of specified area rather than entire city based on three models:
a. Retrofitting: (Planning and improvement of infrastructure in an existing City built-up area of at least 250 acre)
b. Redevelopment: (Replacement of existing built-up area and co-creation of new layout with enhanced infrastructure within minimum 25 acre of area)
c. Greenfield: (Planning and development of all and entire infrastructure required for a city on at least 125 acre area Green/Open/unused land adjacent to current city limit. Land can be acquired by land pooling on PPP) based on viability.
