Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Everyone says Ban POly, ban Poly.......... but first of all, do we have any alternate. Poly bags are mfd using waste of Petroleum products. None of other alternates are made using such waste material. Alternate: Paper bags - how many trees we need to cut, how much of water we needs to make such bags. Jute - how much we can get jute, and at what cost... ? Instead of banning, we must see how best we can recollect it, and how efficiently we can recycle it, for next use.

Plastic bags are made in small units, most of whom do not pay excise and other duties. Therefore, the menace can be stopped only by enforcing it at the level of shopkeepers. Shopkeepers may offer jute or cloth bags to the customers at a cost or on returnable basis. Use of plastic plates, cups, spoons etc may be banned in marriage and other functions. Instead plates, etc made of leaves may be used. This will boost village & small scale indutries too.

- Plastics items listed should be banned and if anyone sells in the stores, license should be cancelled bz in India no one will follow the rules including big cats. - Centre has bring the system in such way that all the states should have stakes in controlling use of plastics. - Centre should bring the more taxable column on the people who wants buy and sell the plastic items. - Centre should implement bio degradable mandatory on the use of bottles.

According to me, "plastics should be banned totally for our earth's environment." These non-biodegradable object harms everything. But, at the same time, we should also think about the problems of the food and beverage industry. This industry would run in loss if we ban all the plastic products totally in a day. On my view, we should at first find out any other substitute of Plastic which should be degradable and then we should go for a clear ban of Plastic products.
