Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

I am totally for a #ban on use of #plastic bags/cups/plates not just in #Chandigarh but across India. Plastic materials are a major environmental hazard due to being non-biodegradable. Plastic bags/cups/plates and allied materials are a major cause of choking of our water bodies. You can see so many of these floating around in lakes and rivers across the country. Even if these are burnt, it causes air pollution.

I wud really like to know what the govt is planning..Was planning to enter the plastic industry.. As always those who have invested in this business will always have a uncertain future .. It's a typical govt functioning where it least care abt the future of those businessman who r affected by its decision of banning ... Myself was working as a trader in derivatives market .. But one day govt realised it shud b taxed and imposed CTT and STT .. Now my life screwed.. Totally unemployed

My idea to reduce the plastic use is contact the facotory owners and suggest to use their plant for some other products production. If the people will not get plastic things from where they will use ? this will reduce it to maximum extent. In school where I am a teacher i always exlpained my students not to use these plastic bottles because in long run itwill effect their health . they follow for sometime then again start using because of cheap rates. But if they will not get from they

According to me the greatest contributions could be from general public by avoiding plastic water tanks, storage of water should be cemented which saves water from excessive heating in summers & stops contamination also.Since plastic is bad for health and with this health issues can also be resolved.Plus the microwave safe utensils can be replaced with glassware It will help in reviving those dying jute, hemp industries too. And support governments Make in India initiative. All benefits rolled

I am from Bangalore and the plastic bag ban had already been implemented here. It is a good initiative by the government and should be rolled out India wide. As an alternative make mass produced affordable jute, etc. bags available at the stores too. It will help in reviving those dying jute, hemp industries too. And support governments Make in India initiative. All benefits rolled into one. We can promote India as a plastic free country (majorly) - how about that! #Ban

I am from Jaipur and like to share that in National Handlooms there is a vegetable shop in which you get carry bags when buy veggis and fruit. These carry bags are roughly made from cloth pieces from tailors left over cloth pieces, cloth pieces of puja items. I found this a good initiative as we are actually using cloth pieces which can be used in this way. Yes poly bags should be banned then only we will be forced to accept better substitute.
