Indian Students Achieve Remarkable Success in International Rocketry Competition The ThrustMIT rocketry team from Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, Karnataka, has achieved a notable success by securing the second position globally in the SDL Payload Challenge at the International Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) held in Midland, Texas, USA from June 9 to 14, 2025. Also they have secured 4th place globally in 30k cots category. This competition is considered a premier platform for top university teams worldwide and saw participation from around 143 teams globally, with teams from India including IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, VIT Vellore, and MIT Manipal. The team's rocket, "Vayuvega," was successfully launched in the 30,000 feet category and reached a remarkable altitude of 29,432 feet, surpassing the height of Mount Everest. The rocket was entirely designed and developed by undergraduate B.Tech students.
