There is no sewerage system/underground drainage system in the Kakinada City .It is proposed to provide UGD Scheme in the Area Based Development Zone which was selected by the citizen’s of Kakinada.

The following are the main components of the scheme:

• Providing underground trunk/sub mains
• Providing intermediate pumping stations if required
• Providing decentralized Sewerage treatment plants using membrane technology or latest technology which requires less area.
• Utilization of effluent water for gardening, water for flushing of toilets in institutions and hotels.
• Examining the feasibility of utilizing the treated water for industrial use.
• 100% sewerage connections in the area.

The following are the advantage of Underground drainage system:

• Entire sewerage water flows in closed pipes.
• No stagnation of sullage water.
• No mosquito breeding.
• Health standards of people will be improved
• No pollution of ground water and surface water due to establishing sewage treatment plants and reuse of treated Water.

Kindly, post your views and ideas till 15th November, 2015.

Unless Kakinada Under Ground Sewerage System (KUGSS)is implemented under the AMRUT Scheme of MoUD, there is no point in calling the Smart City concept. This KUGSS is to be taken up along with implementation of laying Fresh Water Disptribution Pipe Lines (replacing the jundred and twelve year old pipelines) across the City for all Fifty Divisions along with laying Under Ground Power Lines across the City. Allthis shouldbe combined at a stretch for one time single purpose digging of surface.

Cheedala Pora (OPEN DRAIN WITH CONCRETE REVETMENT ) running from north to south, which has become a place for waste accumulation, a breeding centre for mosquitoes, accumation of allplastic and other waste, has to be converted for underground drainage system (KUGSS), now requires urgent de-silting and cleaning

Instead of investing that huge amount in providing sewer lines, the Govt could spend that amount in promoting the domestic sewage treatment, which would reduce the quantity of sewage to be carried by sewers. In this system the sullage thus treated could also be reused for the domestic purposes and thus is a technology for water conservation. As a civil engineering student I have proposed an Idea on this and if contacted further, could exhibit the idea.

As citizen of kakinada i am glad to know that sewerage system is going to be implemented in kakinada in the forthcoming years. it is highly advantageous to the public. it will improve the health standards of people thereby increasing the standard of living of people. though kakinada is a coastal city, implementation of sewerage system not difficult.....planning will be done accordingly...lets hope we will be in top 20 for becoming smart city......M venkata S

kakinada is Industially developing city with its port based activities and no.of industies established in the past 20 years. Most of the people are residing in the merged panchayats without sufficient drinking/drainage facilities/road connectivities. hence the same are required to be improved
